Tipping Cherry Picker Sinks into Ground

A cherry picker which has sunk into the ground has closed a Guisborough road.

The crane was driving through an alleyway off New Road and is now tipping on one side.

Emergency services, including Cleveland Fire Brigade and Cleveland Police , were called to the incident on Saturday morning.

New Road remained closed to traffic at 1pm at the junction of Rectory Lane to Hollytree News, off New Road.

One resident said that the cherry picker tried to gain access to the park and went through the pavement.

Another added: “I seen it before it sank but you could see that the path had given way in one place”.

Cleveland Police remained at the scene on Saturday afternoon and it is unclear when the cherry picker will be removed from the alleyway.

The force have been contacted for a comment on the incident but “cannot disclose any information at this time”.
